I'm totally new to PDAs and haven't a clue what to buy. Here are my needs:

1) Emails - receive and send ability. Some are important so I don't want to buy a toy PDA.

2) Phone - Need best phone communication ability.

3) keyboard hook-up for longer/faster writing.

I'm not looking to buy a toy/gadget. I have a small child and no time to sit at my computer at home. At work I'd like not to receive outside business emails but I don't have time to long on to an outside service such as g.mail, yahoo, what not.

Your opinion on a PDA that could professionally handle my email and phone needs?

BTW - I'm not willing to spend an arm and a leg -

Thanks - Paul

Hi Paul,

Not sure if you've figured it out by now which PDA to go with.  There are several PDA available to you, such as Verizon's PPC6700 with the unlimited data & phone plan. It runs on Windows Mobile 5.  You can setup email accounts pop/smtp.  The sound quality is better compared to my Treo 650. It uses EVDO oppose to GSM (cingular, tmobile...) so the speed is comparable to a slow DSL connection.  You can even access the internet.

I was able to get the phone out the door at $250.

The treo 650 would be a good bet.  Or maybe the new 700?  I am also looking for a new smartphone to buy and I am deciding among these:

Maybe that will help you narrow your search down a bit?

I think you'd be happy with either the Treo 700p or 700wx.  Either would be fine it's just a matter of deciding on an operating system.  If you want simple and fast, go with the 700p.  The Palm OS is easy.  If you don't mind the slower speed then go with the Treo 700wx.

Hope that helps.

2)keyboard
3)Easy software/easy to convert some excel files to the sofeware and or use excel for list-Ie to do, shopping, errands etc.

Not sure I want a phone, GPS or E-mail but not opposed either as most tend to come that way now.

Any input from you guys is appreciated.
I also do not want to pay through the nose but I will not sell myself short either.

Hi Paul, My name is Paul as well. I'm a family doctor and need a robust PDA as well as a reliable phone.

At first I tried the Motorola Q with the Windows Mobile 5.0 OS. There was a lot of clicking compared to the Palm Tungsten C PDA that has been my mainstay.

The Motorola Q worked alright but the device only went 12 hours on standby; less if I actually used it.

I'm with VerizonWireless and they gave me the choice of any phone. I returned the Motorola Q and now own a Treo 700p (Palm).

What a wonderful difference! It goes 10 days on standby. The OS is so much more intuitive and trouble-free than the Windows 5.0 mobile.

I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to combine a phone with a PDA (Smartphone).

The keyboard is flawless.

The phone audio quality is excellent including the large speaker.

Life is now good!
