Stopped in at my corner computer store yesterday and had a chance to play around with a TE2.

So, like, is that it?

Much brouhaha about the screen being brighter, but in 'real world' conditions (ie, a brightly lit store) I could see no difference between it and the 72 sitting next to it - and the 72 I always found similar to the TE, which I own.

Speed? With the limited experimentation I could do, I could see no marked difference between it and what I expect from my TE. Okay, maybe if you're trying to view a downloaded movie, you're going to see a difference, but otherwise? It's a PDA, people!!!

Bluetooth? Waste of time. To link up with another piece of hardware also with bluetooth? And so very little of it is really useful, especially in North America. Where's the Wi-Fi? Not built-in and currently unavailable as an add-on SD card. And if you have a P1 Wi-Fi card installed, you'll have no access to information/docs/music/ memory on your  usual SD card....

90 day warranty. Just like the TE. If ever their was proof that Pa1mOne would really prefer to not deal with the Support of their hardware, a 90 day warranty is it.  As it is, it's often impossible to access P1 Support (without paying) and their Support website abdicates most of its responsibility on Support to a user-supported Forum. Solutions found by users like you, not  P1.

Flash memory rather than the traditional static memory: finally, a marked improvement - no need to worry about getting to your next charge or risk losing all your data till your next sync. Still, hardly brain surgery and should have been the de facto memory solution for several years now. P1 just now catching up to the obvious. And still only 32 RAM in the TE2.

So, like, is that it?

If you have a TE that works, no need to upgrade, as far as I can see.  If you're upgrading from an older Palm or are new to them and want to pay a reasonable amount, blow the few additional bucks and get the silver 72s bundled with Wi-Fi card. And least you'll get that, a terrible camera and a one year warranty.

I won't say that the TE2 will be the huge sales disaster the T5 has been, but it does appear to be confirmation that P1 has lost interest in creating PDAs except as a hardware provider to wireless phone companies. And the horror stories on those as found at the P1 Forums.......

Actually Bluetooth is enormously useful. I use it to connect to the
internet through my cellphone and to connect to my bluetooth GPS. On
the cellphone bluetooth also gets me a very nice wireless headset!

Don't be 'dissin' my bluetooth man!

Yeah, but Kermit, if the TE2 had built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, chances are pretty good you wouldn't have to do all that jerry-rigging to connect to the net via your phone! Similarly, where are all those swell SD / SDIO products that were suppposed to replace the old Handspring Springboard - including items like a GPS?

Bluetooth is the wireless nerd's beige extension cord.

I love WiFi. I use it at home and at work. It wouldn't really do me a
hell of a lot of good in my car where I use the GPS and phone via
bluetooth though. While there is some overlap in what bluetooth and
WiFi offer, it's not that significant as they really enable very
different things.

Please tell me Kermit you're not one of these morons who uses his cell phone while and/or PDA while driving?

Add to that lunacy the activity of getting all your wireless dongles to sync and I think a block-wide buffer should be around you!

Ah, GPS. Remember when you could get lost (or nagged at for your navigation skills) without the help of technology....

Meanwhile, I note your silence about my comments on the TE2.....

No - I don't try to surf the 'net while driving! In fact I use my bluetooth headset when I do have to talk on the phone.

As for the other E2 comments - I didn't have anything to say on those points.

Your request for a GPS SD card has an apparent answer. See this article:
