Hello, I'm a Palm power user and have been since the late 90's. I use my Palm more in 1 year than most do in 10. I must have owned 8 different units, always upgrading as newer, better units became available. The one thing that has pissed me off over the many years and many units is that inevitable cloudy area that eventually develops in the Graffitti writing area from all the millions of tiny scratches that occur. After 12 to 18 months of use, this cloud begins to affect the sensitivity of the area, making it difficult to write accurately. I know I could put a screen protector in this area but I hate the feel of that. I have two questions for you all. 1) Does any one know a solution to this problem after the fact? Is there a way to polish it out? Or is the some software that will allow you to move your writing area? 2) I have yet to own one of the full screen (480 X 320) units for fear that this cloud will eventually form on the screen part, thus becoming even more of an issue. Not only would loose writing sensitivity but you would also have a cloud in the viewing area. Can anyone tell me if this cloud problem exists on the full screen uints after a great deal of use? thanks

I'm afraid that I can only suggest getting a screen protector. When you scratch the screen you are damaging the under-lying electronics and I don't think any amount of buffing will fix it. The good news is that there are several different brands of protectors, providing different surface textures. I don't like the smooth plastic sheet that Palm provides. However, I got some from Fellowes that has a slightly matted surface and doesn't seem to change the "feel" of the writing surface too much.

Have you taken a look at the screen protectors offered by Boxwave? They are semi-'permanent' (of a more rigid plastic than most traditional protectors), can be removed, washed and re-applied and have gloss and matte finish versions for many Palms. I'm using one of the glossy (called 'Crystal' by Boxwave) versions on my TX and unlike, say, the Fellowes brand of protectors I had previously used on a m105 and TE, it has no texture to it - so it feels more as if you are writing directly on the screen. And it doesn't collect dust and scars. Just my opinion though....

PDAridge: The best solution that I found for this screen protection problem is applying "the Invisible Shield"... go to www.theinvisibleshield.com for details and ordering info. This far better than any screen protector I have seen on the market. I have one on my Tungsten E2 and the screen looks/ works great after application. They worked with me to make a custom protector for an mp3 player I own. Price was something like $12 - but worth it in my mind since it's the only one you'll buy for the life of your PDA. You need to follow the install instructions and it's worthwhile to read them a couple of times before trying. Cheers.
