After five long years use on my old Palm IIIxe (and looking still new
and working great), I am now considering a new pda. I am very picky
about what I purchase. Futhermore, I am a devout Palm follower. I have
been most attracted to the Palm Zire 72 lately. However, I have some
concerns regarding the non-replacable Lithium ion battery and the
expensive pricetag. If I am going to spend $300.00 or more on a pda I
would expect it to last at least as long as my old palm IIIxe. Instead
I have read that these integrated lithium batteries may last as little
as two years with normal use. And with no easy and relatively
inexpensive means to replace it, I find it hard to justify such an
expense. Why can't PalmOne make the battery user replaceable just like
in some Pocket PC models? If this is the way PalmOne is going to take
in making pdas(disposable), then I would rather spend my hard earned
cash on the less expensive (and still disposable?) Zire 31 or a Pocket
PC. At least I have less concern for its' loss or breakage. Someone
please give me hope. I would like to stay being a Palm
user.
