Hi, I am in the medical field. I want a PDA mostly for references. I like the idea of MP3 capabilities. I guess my main question is I dont want to use it as a phone. Which PDA are best for my needs. Internet connection would be good as well. I read that with Palm products user not able to change battery. So i am looking at HP and Dell axim. ANY advice appreciated.
Thank you, tjw

Don't let the battery issue keep you from Palms.  Each charge lasts a long time, and the battery will be rechargeable for at least 2 years.  There are outfits that will put in a new battery for a reasonable fee.

There are tons of medical software for Palms - epocrates, etc.  My doctor friend uses his Palm TE2 every day.  You can Google "medical palm" for more info.

DO be put off by the battery problem!!!

I've had 3 palms, Most recently I was one of the first to buy The Tungsten T5 (unfortunately) at a very high price for the time. In short, the T5 software turned out to be crappy, requiring a hard reboot after most synchronizations with my computer and frequent other problems. From what I've read online this may have been specific to the hastily-released T5. I was very happy with my prior Palms software.

However, I have other issues with Palm:

First, their support for my attempts to solve the software problems was essentially nonexistent. Every download, update or fix took forever to complete and required that I reload all my other software every few months. None of it solved the problems and their customer service department was unhelpful throughout.

Second, within days of the limited warranty expiring the battery died and that was that! Yes, they would replace it, at the Palmfactory, but not at a price I considered reasonable at the time. Since then I have done without a PDA, but I am probably going to look for another. If I go for a Palm it will be entry-level priced, and I'll treat it as a 1-2yr throwaway item. If I'm spending more than $200 then it must have a user-replaceable battery.

Hope this helps.

PS  I'm alsoin the medical field -- as faras I know, all the major medical resources I used were all available for PC and Palm

I say look to the iPaq.  I think HP has the best PDAs as long as you don't want a phone.  Windows Mobile is more powerful than Palm will ever be. Here's a link to the HP site:

Happy shopping!
