Notetaking

Hello- - Informative site.

A Question please: This maybe a bit "stoneage" technologically speaking though.

I'm looking for a PDA, strictly for notetaking purposes. I'm a student and a compulsive notetaker.  Research topic ideas etc may come to me at odd hours, if i dont get them down, they're gone forever ! I have a ridiculous amount of scraps of paper all over the place.

Are there any "stand-alone" PDA's ? i.e not multifunctional with cell phone applications etc. Something with good ole word n' excel, that i can hook up to a PC and transfer data with. I guess i just need a pocket PC, but i cant find any without those bothersome cell phone services.
