Mobility Site Reviews The HTC Mogul

By undisclosed@thoughtsmedia.com (Jon Westfall) on 10/30/07

"In my opinion the Mogul has all the features of a great PDA and a pretty decent phone as well. Finally, I don't have to choose either one or the other! This is what convergence was meant to be. Overall, I'd give the HTC Mogul a rating of 8.5 out of 10. I'd put it on my highly recommended list of devices. In fact, it's now at the top of my personal 'Want' list."

Holy HTC Device Reviews Batman! Yesterday I posted on a HTC Titan/Mogul review done overseas, today we're looking at the Qwest Mogul, tested out here in the US. Overall I'm a big fan of this device, whatever you want to call it. If I wasn't a GSM customer (and darn happy I am), I'd probably pick a Mogul for my daily driver (It would be weird to have to stick to one device...!)

Signs of a Centro Rally

By on 10/29/07
palminfocenter.com

Palm CentroTiernan Ray of Barron's Tech Trader Daily blog has written an article focusing on the encouraging initial sales of Palm's new Centro smartphone. The strong early sales and other encouraging news from the Palm camp suggest that a true Palm "rally" may be on the horizon.

The Centro, Palm's most recent smartphone, is an attractively-priced Palm OS device that is apparently "doing quite well" as far as Sprint retail store sell-through (a crucial figure when determining initial handset sales performance) according to a Pacific Crest analyst quoted in the article. The $99 Centro (after rebates & 2yr-contract) has not compromised the sales of the older yet higher-priced Treo 755p as much as some industry pundits had speculated.

Vringo video ringtones, the ultimate caller ID

David Goldfarb's phone won't stop ringing.

The Vringo CTO is giving me a demo of Vringo's video ringtone service, now in public beta, to demonstrate how users can assign phone-formatted video clips as their outgoing ringtones. David has chosen a humorous singing cartoon of a green bear as his video calling card. He's set it up so that any phone he calls with a Vringo client will light up with his chosen video. If so desired, he could limit the output to his wife and send everyone else a much more sober video to announce his call.

Vringo reverses the conventional ringtone concept of users choosing songs to differentiate between contacts, entertain themselves with favorite songs, or make a stylistic statement. Here individuals control how they're perceived by friends, and can use "vringos" as a gift or personalized greeting. Users can upload their own clips on Vringo.com or record clips from within the Vringo phone app. It's easy to see how users could create happy birthday messages or video gifts.... (News)
